The Tip Top Audio Buchla 230t is a three channel comparator and envelope follower, designed to convert audio events into CV events. Each channel features an audio input with a sensitivity knob that helps set a threshold; whenever the threshold is exceeded by the input, that channel will output a trigger or gate (selectable via switch) and also output a decay envelope with a knob to set the decay time.
A super handy device! We use these to do things like sync overdubs on recordings with flexible tempo, to automatically allow drums patched to them to modulate the system, to key the synth off live audio (for instance triggering a synth or advancing a sequencer based on claps or other sounds input via microphone) and as a utility to fix triggers that aren't working with eurorack, for instance to synchronize a modular system from something like a metronome in a daw or drum machine rather than with midi for tight timing (midi beat clock is awful on daws these days.)
