The newest version of the classic Sport Modulation from Toppobrillo! Makes smooth voltages stepped, makes stepped voltages smooth, creates all sorts of predictable and unpredictable signals!
The Sport Modulator 2 is a dual “lag and hold” device that can be quite a few things, depending on how you use it. It can be patched as a slew, oscillator/ LFO, triggered staircase generator, subharmonic generator/ divider, VCA, switch, sample and hold, track and hold, set of comparators, trigger delay, one-shot, envelope follower, quadrature function generator, “bit-crusher”, random source, and probably several other things I can’t think of right now… The Sport Mod’s open-ended architecture is heavily inspired by the Serge SSG, with quite a few distinctions, and should invite plenty of experimentation and discovery.
Sport Modulator features two identical channels that are clocked sample and holds into slews. When smooth mode is engaged, the sample and holds behave a bit like a track and hold (although unlike a track and hold, where high gate allows voltage to pass and low gate freezes the signal, Sport Modulator freezes with high gate and passes on low gate.) Each channel also features an END output which outputs a gate when the slew has caught up to the original signal (great for delaying triggers, self patching to achieve variable responses, and much more.)
The Couple output is a comparator that outputs a high state when the top circuit is a higher voltage than the bottom one. When the switch is flipped, it will instead compare the sample and hold input of the top circuit with the slew input of the bottom circuit, setting up a feedback loop that can be used to create random voltages.
