AfterLater Audio's version of the Turing Machine MK2 with Pulses expander, in a more compact form!
The randomness of the Music Thing Modular Turing Machine, shrunk down to 6HP. Alan retains all of the same functionality as the original including the connectors for the expanders.
While this module has little to do with the original Turing Machine (by Alan Turing), it is a shift register based sequencer. You cannot program this sequencer, instead it builds random sequences that can be locked in.
Alan contains either 8 or 16 containers that contain a bit - each time Alan is clocked the pattern advances to the left and shifts over. When a new bit enters position one, it has a chance to flip to the opposite state, with the probability set by a knob. The module outputs a value that corresponds to the binary value of the eight visible bits, meaning it can function as a random, can lock a random sequence, or can evolve a random sequence slowly over time.
Also includes the "morcom" (pulses) expander, which outputs triggers when certain bits are high, creating rhythms based on the bit pattern.
Note: This is a used item, and while it is guaranteed to be fully functional it is almost sure to also contain "rack rash" on the mounting holes and have some minor scratches on the panel from use. It will include a ribbon cable, m3 screws, and a box, but not the original box.
