Flying Bus Ribbon Cable Designed to connect the CV/Gate Bus of two modules while isolating them from the CV/Gate Bus on the power supply.
In the Doepfer Eurorack power specifications, the ribbon cable that supplies power to modules also contains 4 additional connections - these connections were designed to allow the creation of a bus distributing two signals - CV and Gate (plus grounding) - throughout the system. This was intended to allow a MIDI to CV Module to automatically control each oscillator and trigger each envelope without having to physically patch each connection, as they would be connected through the ribbon cable and busboard.
Other companies have found different uses for these additional connections, such as the Tip Top drum format which can send the outputs of each drum module to their MixZ module without patching, or for instance the Control Bus formant Make Noise, Malekko, and WMD are using to send clocks or preset switching information from module to module.
The purpose of this cable is to connect the CV/Gate Bus directly from two modules without using the actual power bus. This could for instance be used to link presets on a Rene II and Tempi while still allowing the case's bus to be used for another purpose, such as that MixZ drum summing or for typical CV Gate normalling purposes.
